What is a Sin?
What is a Sin?
Lets define that first…
Is lying?
Is stealing?
Is cheating on school work?
Is wanting some thing someone else has really bad? - coveting ?
Disobeying your parents?
Have you ever sinned?
Have you ever sinned?
Have them raise their hands***
Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”
Tells us that EVERYONE of us has messed up, from telling lies to talking about someone to lying…
No one is perfect not your leaders your parents not teachers no body…
Is it ok to sin?
Is it ok to sin?
No! The sin we commit separate us from God.
Romans 6:1–2 “What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? Far from it! How shall we who died to sin still live in it?”
so because we are separate from God, we will die a spiritual death. Permanent separation from God.
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gracious gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
How did God, fix us being separated ?
How did God, fix us being separated ?
see your leaders love you! Ms Katie, Justin, Me we all love you. Thats why we have spent all day today with you! We love you!
Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
But God loves you so much more than any one in this world!
See when you was at your lowest point, lying to your parents, stealing, cheating on test - homework … While in the middle of the sin God sent his only Son to die for you and me!
When we was at the cross Christ looked ahead and said “I love you”
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life.”
See when we sin there is a separation that happens, God is a Holy, Righteous, Justified. He cannot just look on sin (dirty rotten vile) there had to be a bridge between him and us.
So Jesus, Gods only son willing layed down his life for us so we could be family with God.
Jesus taking our place in a spiritual death so we wouldn’t have too. He Loves us that much!
Telelestai
Telelestai
Means “Paid In Full”
See there was a debt that had to be paid, Jesus took our death on the cross and paid it for us. He didn’t just pay for one sin he paid for all our sins. Everyones sins!
Imagine this for example - you go out to a fancy (Hollywood Style) restaurant you have to wear the best clothes best shoes. You walk in put your name down get a table you order lobster steak Mtn Dew dessert … the bill comes and you realize you don’t have enough money you call your dad mom aunt sister brother … and they dont have enough you are doomed cops have been called you must either pay for the meal or you will go to jail until you can pay…. along comes some stranger and pays for your meal you have no way of paying him back you just say thank you ..
much like this story Jesus paid a debt you cannot could not afford.
When Jesus died on that cross he “said i have paid for the debt you owe”
his last words was “it is finished” meaning every spiritual debt we will owe is paid.
taking this a step further …. telelestai - is an accounting term so if someone wrote this on something you bought - you could never be charged for ever again! You would never be responsible for the charges again! - thats the beauty of what Jesus did on the cross - your sins you’ve commited - once you believe in Jesus and what he did on the cross NOTHING YOU HAVE DONE WILL BE HELD AGAINST YOU
So what your response?
So what your response?
So tonight as we close and a song beings to play i want you to ask your self “Are my sins paid for?” “Do i believe in Jesus?”
and if your answer is “No” i first invite you to the alter…
Bc full transparency i didnt grow up in church, i didnt know simple bible stories … i had no one to show me the bible until i was older, i had to study so i get it if you have no idea what or who Jesus is….
grab a leader by the hand a allow us to walk you through scripture…
